Google Releases Android Update Fixing 37 Vulnerabilities

Google began rolling out the June 2024 monthly Android security update this week, addressing 37 vulnerabilities, including several high-severity privilege escalation vulnerabilities.

The first part of this month’s security update, with the 2024-06-01 security patch level, addresses 19 issues in framework and system components.

Google stated in its announcement: “The most severe of these issues is a high-severity vulnerability in the system component that could lead to local privilege escalation without requiring additional execution privileges.”

This month, 7 security flaws were resolved in system components, all of which could lead to privilege escalation. Among the 12 issues resolved in the framework, 10 were privilege escalation vulnerabilities, one led to information disclosure, and one led to denial of service.

The second part of the update arrives on devices as the 2024-06-05 security patch level, addressing an additional 18 vulnerabilities in the kernel, Imagination Technologies, Arm, MediaTek, and Qualcomm components. Three Qualcomm-specific flaws are critical.

Devices running the 2024-06-05 security patch level include fixes for all these bugs, as well as security flaws resolved in previous patch levels.
